Thesis.  Identification is the central psychological act of
(un)consciousness therefore:
 
(i)   Self is consciousness assigning its own identity
(ii)  Emotion is the unconscious assessing a positive reinforcement of
that which is identified as Self or its negative diminishment
(iii) Self-consciousness is consciousness of what one's identity is
(iv) Consciousness of Self provisions a psyche with insight into its
emotionality, motivation and self-control.
 
Supporting evidence:
 
(i)   Reflection on everything we ourselves and others feel and do every
minute of the day as being directly associated with what is perceived as
unconscious self or conscious Self identity
(ii)  Any violent act against anything from oneself to other people to
anything else that inherently involves high risk of self-damage can only
be evidence of the existence of a concept of self-gain and that concept
relies on the existence of a self/Self
 
 
Reasoning:
 
(i)  Since the first evolution of sound and sight codes as mediums of
socialisation identity as the axis of behaviour control has evolved from
family through tribe through class to the individual Self `person'
(ii)   Every society requires social control and that relies on
individuals identifying with that which a society values and what a
society values is its self
(iii) At the core a successful society is a common identity and at the
core of an unsuccessful society is the lack of a common identity
 
Conclusion:
 
(i)  The dominant society of these times by placing money as the core
value and preventing the majority of people from accessing it forces
people to re-identify with whatever is to hand, ie., whatever and whoever
they meet and thereby creates a steady disintegration of value/identity
and resultant loss of social-controls
 
(ii)  Social-controls can only be restored by a re-alignment of identity
reflected in widespread adoption of common values and while commerce is
the nexus of value social disintegration will continue driven by
commercial inequalities
 
(iii) It is likely that social cohesion will only return when
Self-identification of people with an ecology, a nature, a whole unites
most people around a common identity.
